It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-31-16)

Once again, I spent a lot of free time watching the Cubbies. I also learned "Go Cubs Go," and it has been running on a loop through my brain ever since :-)

On Saturday, the Huskers played at 6 and the Cubbies played at 7. What's a fan to do? Put the Huskers on in the living room and the Cubbies on in the kitchen and stand in the middle, of course!

"The Devoted" by Suzanne Woods Fisher

I am not a fan of Amish fiction. (Weird way to start a review of an Amish fiction book, right?) However, I am a fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher's writing, and she happens to write Amish fiction. I've read each fiction release of hers since A Lancaster County Christmas came out in 2011, and I see no signs of stopping.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-24-16)

Last week was another light reading one for me, for the same reason as before:

The Chicago Cubs!!!!!!!!!!

This week's reading will probably be light for the same reason ... I'll be watching the World Series (and getting far too little sleep). I sincerely hope the Cubbies can pull it out, but even if they don't, it's sure been fun watching them!

"The Cautious Maiden" by Dawn Crandall

Last year, I was able to read the three books that made up Dawn Crandall's Everstone Chronicles. I loved them! When I heard that a fourth book was being written, I knew I had to read it. And guess what? It's just as great as I'd hoped!

Stacking the Shelves (10-23-16)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly linkup hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's all about the new books accumulated over the week. This week was a bit unusual in that I bought several books...I just couldn't pass them up!

"Cold-Case Christianity for Kids" by J. Warner Wallace & Susie Wallace

At some point, kids who grow up knowing about Jesus want to know if what they've learned about Him is really true. Cold-Case Christianity for Kids is a great book for those kids—and for anyone who wants to investigate the claims of Christianity.

"The Complete Jewish Study Bible"

Recently, I was given the opportunity to review The Complete Jewish Study Bible, a Bible geared toward both Jews and Christians. Taking a look at this Bible intrigued me, especially since I recently learned there's a good chance I have some Jewish heritage.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-17-16)

Happy Monday! Last week was a pretty light reading week for me, in large part due to the Chicago Cubs. In general, I am not a baseball fan. I've been to a few games over the years (though none major league), and each time, my boredom reached epic proportions. There's no major league team in Nebraska, and baseball isn't that big here. But my dad, who was born near Chicago, is a lifelong Cubs fan, so I've always wanted good things for the Cubs, even though I rarely pay any attention. The postseason is different, though. There's something about the stakes being higher that turns me into a raging fan, if only during the month of October. So I've spent several evenings over the last week able to do nothing but stare at the TV screen and cheer for the Cubbies as if my screaming could make a difference!

Stacking the Shelves (10-16-16)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly linkup hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's all about the new books accumulated over the week. I missed out on participating last week because I was down with a horrible cold. Here's hoping it's my only cold of the season!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-10-16)

Happy Monday! It's time for another reading check-in, and I read way more than I anticipated last week. Why? Because on Wednesday, I felt the beginnings of a cold, and by Friday afternoon, I had retreated to my couch, where I remained through today. While most of the time I didn't feel like doing anything except watching TV (or, more accurately, dozing while the TV was on), at times I felt like reading—and I ended up finishing three books! I also made some good headway on the cross-stitch project I've been working on for a while. Who knows, I might actually finish it this fall!

"The Wedding Shop" by Rachel Hauck

A beautiful novel of love, longing, regrets, and redemption, The Wedding Shop captivated me from the first sentence.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-3-16)

I read bits and pieces of a lot of things over the past week—and I even managed to finish two books! (Honestly, this is because I'm finally slowing down in my One Tree Hill watching. But now my CW superhero shows are beginning again, so there goes some reading time!)

Best of the Bunch: September 2016

Time for my second month of participating in Best of the Bunch, hosted by A Cocoon of Books. I read quite a lot in September (a change from my measly reading in August): I reviewed 15 books, and I have several others in progress! It's nice to get back into a reading groove.
