It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (1-9-17)

Happy Monday! We're now fully back into the swing of things following the holidays ... doesn't it feel like Christmas was a long time ago? My winter is looking a little different than normal—for the first time since 2004, I'm not coaching high school speech. After 12 seasons, I decided it was time to quit. Our team's first meet was last Saturday, and I can't even express how thrilled I was to be sleeping in instead of getting up at 4:30 a.m.! I'm hoping this change means a much healthier and happier Becky throughout the winter :-)

While I only got one book read last week (largely due to my decision to binge North & South on Netflix), it was a beauty!

What I read last week:

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen. Oh, my, this novel is a beauty! Unlike Klassen's previous novels, it's part of a series. If you're a fan of Cranford or Lark Rise to Candleford, you should check it out! (5 stars)

What I'm reading now:

Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige Hill. I set this book aside a few weeks ago in favor of Leah Remini's memoir. After watching the latest episode of Leah Remini: Scientology & the Aftermath, I picked it up again. Where I found it interesting before, it's completely enthralling now. I'm about 50% of the way through, and Jenna is just starting to question the church. She's also painting a not-so-great (but what I would expect) picture of her uncle, Scientology leader David Miscavige.

What I'll read next:

The Kill Fee by Fiona Veitch Smith. Last year, I read Smith's first Poppy Denby Mystery, The Jazz Files. It was delightful! I'm looking forward to stepping back into Poppy's world.

What are you reading right now? Have you binged any British period pieces recently? Let me know, and check out what others are reading by going to the linkup.

  1. Happy reading, Becky. I'm in awe the holidays are OVER already. Makes me sad. Currently I'm reading Jessica Cluess' fantasy novel, and am finding it quite good! :)
