"The Maid of Fairbourne Hall" is the story of Margaret Macy, a young woman living with her mother and stepfather. A few months from her 25th birthday, she is to receive a generous inheritance from her aunt on that date. Yet, her stepfather is determined to take it by forcing her to marry his nephew, a scoundrel she can never love. Macy runs away and goes into hiding as a maid, landing by accident in the home of a man whose proposal she refused--quite brutally. Macy has much to learn as she attempts to protect her secret for the sake of her family.

I'll admit, the first one hundred pages had me wondering. Through these, author Julie Klassen was setting the scene, introducing us to Margaret's plight and resulting situation. It wasn't exactly pleasant, but it was necessary. In the author's note at the end of the book, Klassen mentions there were many details of the situation she chose to leave out--to spare us. I was thankful for that.

What a lovely encouragement to read your review of My Stubborn Heart Becky! Glad the characters worked for you and that I didn't throw you too much with my POV shifts. As you probably noticed, I like to write mostly from my heroine's POV. But it's the times when I'm in the hero's head that hold, for me, the most power. Imo, the hero is the true lynchpin of any romance. If your reader doesn't love him, the author and the book is toast. :)

That is so funny...I kept waiting for mine to arrive and it never did, so I e-mailed Glass Road. Then I get yesterday's e-mail. :) What a great series that is! I read the first two books and am looking forward to reading this third one. :)

You need to read the Ishbane Conspiracy by Randy Alcorn which is my favorite book! Safely Home (already on this list) is my other favorite.

I thought I would be sad that the series is over, but instead I am glad I do not have to waste another minute wondering who Bailey chooses! I thought all four Bailey books were drama and I probably wanted to throw them all across the room at some point, and yet I just couldn't stop reading.
Perhaps I will be sad after the next book, which is the finale of the whole Baxter Family Series.
