"Prom and Prejudice" by Elizabeth Eulberg

If you like Jane Austen adaptations and sweet YA romance, then Prom & Prejudice is perfect for you!

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date.

After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn't interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be - especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.

Lizzie is happy about her friend's burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles's friend, Will Darcy, who's snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn't seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it's because her family doesn't have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk - so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?

I'm at a loss to describe how much I enjoyed this book! If you're one of those Austen purists (though I prefer the word "snobs"), you probably won't like it too much. I, however, get a great kick out of remakes, so this novel was right down my alley! This is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice where Elizabeth Bennet is a scholarship student attending the prestigious Longbourn Academy. Will Darcy attends Pemberley Academy, and the fun continues from there. Nearly everyone from the Austen novel makes an appearance here, though sometimes in an altered form. Author Elizabeth Eulberg stays pretty faithful to the source material, but she did add enough of her own plot that I was not anticipating a major twist, which I found delightful. To top it off, this book is clean (not even a swear word) and sweetly romantic. If you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice (or if you're just looking for a fun romance), I highly recommend Prom and Prejudice! 5 stars.
