"Once Upon a Prince" by Rachel Hauck

Once Upon a Prince feeds into our little girl fantasies—who among us didn't dream of growing up to be a princess? If you take a pinch of The Prince and Me, a dash of The Princess Diaries, and throw in a healthy dose of the British royal wedding, you have Once Upon a Prince.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess—just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon's Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation.

It's the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

I absolutely loved the story of Susanna and Nathaniel, two people who were completely trapped by expectations. While Nathaniel was a prisoner to the expectations of an entire nation, Susanna's entrapment was of her own making—she had plans for her life, and she was going to do everything she could to bring those plans to fruition ... even if it meant marrying a man she didn't really love. As God stripped away everything Susanna had clung to for so long, she finally experienced the freedom that comes from surrendering to Him. That freedom didn't mean life would be easy—in fact, she spent much of the book wondering what on earth God was doing—but it did give her peace. What a great lesson—all wrapped up in a thoroughly romantic story!

If you love a good love story—and really, who doesn't?—then I highly recommend you check out Once Upon a Prince ... and then join me in anxiously awaiting the next book in this series! 5 stars.
