"Cold-Case Christianity for Kids" by J. Warner Wallace & Susie Wallace

At some point, kids who grow up knowing about Jesus want to know if what they've learned about Him is really true. Cold-Case Christianity for Kids is a great book for those kids—and for anyone who wants to investigate the claims of Christianity.

Between the ages of 8 and 12, kids often start to wonder if Christianity is true.

In Cold-Case Christianity for Kids, detective J. Warner Wallace draws readers into the thrill of high-stakes investigation by showing them how to think rather than telling them what to think. In this children's companion to the bestselling Cold-Case Christianity, detective Wallace gets kids excited about testing witnesses, examining the evidence, and investigating the case for Christianity. Includes author illustrations and links to a website where kids can download activities, fill in case notes, and earn a certificate of merit.

First of all, I wish I would have read a book like this when I was a kid! I absolutely loved how the authors incorporated a mystery about a skateboard with the lessons they were teaching about how to investigate the Bible.

Each chapter has sidebars with definitions and fill-in-the blank questions. There are also illustrations that go along with the story. On the very last page, there's even a certificate that can be filled out and presented to the child who finishes the book. Plus, there's an online component: coldcasechristianityforkids.com has extra resources for each chapter, including videos, downloadable activities, and a parent's guide.

Written on a level that upper elementary children would understand, Cold-Case Christianity for Kids also fascinated me. (I would recommend that adults check out J. Warner Wallace's Cold-Case Christianity, which provides a deeper dive into the concepts presented in this book.) This is a wonderful book for kids who are just learning about Christianity or who want to know how to defend their faith. 5 stars.

  1. If you are ever in a discussion with a conservative Christian apologist regarding the veracity of Christianity, he or she will frequently recommend a list of Christian books for you to read. Almost invariably, one of those books will be Cold Case Christianity by J. Warner Wallace.

Wallace is a former crime detective. After converting to Christianity, he took up Christian apologetics, using his investigative skills to support Christianity’s central claim, the resurrection of Jesus. Wallace believes that a thorough evaluation of the evidence would convince any court of law that Jesus of Nazareth truly did rise from the dead.

But there is one big problem: Wallace’s “case” is built entirely on the assumption that the Gospels are eyewitness accounts, and therefore, the four accounts of Jesus resurrection in those books would be admissable in a court of law as primary source documents (eyewitness testimony). However, Wallace either doesn’t know or ignores the fact that the majority of New Testament scholars do not believe or at least question that the Gospels were written by eyewitnesses or the associates of eyewitnesses. Wallace’s evidence would not be admissable in any court of law. It is hearsay.

    J. Warner Wallace’s case for Christianity fails.
