It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (1-2-17)

Happy New Year! The blog has been pretty quiet over the last week because my whole family was home for Christmas, and my sister and her husband stayed through Thursday ... so I had things other than blogging on my mind!

I did read quite a bit though—I actually read two books, started two others, and listened to an entire audiobook!

What I read last week:

Forever Safe by Jody Hedlund. This is the fourth book in Hedlund's Beacons of Hope series. As I'm on a tour for the fifth book in January, I wanted to read this one (which I bought clear back in June) first. While both novels can stand alone, I'm glad I read this first, as the hero of the next book is a minor character in this one. This was easily one of the most enjoyable novels I've read in a long time! (4-1/2 stars)

Never Forget by Jody Hedlund. I hadn't intended to read this book yet, as my stop on the blog tour isn't until January 12, but Forever Safe left me hungry for more from Hedlund. I enjoyed this one almost as much as Forever Safe! (review and rating to come)

What I listened to last week:

Troublemaker by Leah Remini. I've been watching Remini's show Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which exposes the corruption in Scientology. When I got a free Audible credit (thanks, Amazon!), it didn't take me very long to decide to use it on Remini's book. Her story is fascinating, and she's certainly not afraid to name names! (There are a couple of bizarre stories about Tom Cruise ... well, they would have been bizarre had the couch-jumping incident not happened.) The audio version is read by Remini, and I think hearing it in her voice really adds to it. (4-1/2 stars)

What I'm reading now:

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. I bought this a while ago, but I decided to finally pull it out after I watched the movie with Blendy at Christmas. She hadn't seen it before, and I thought she would like it. However, I'd forgotten that she doesn't do awkward. Bridget Jones is awkward personified! So far, the book is just OK ... I'm not sure if I'll finish it.

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen. I've just started this latest regency romance from Klassen. I'm really enjoying it so far.

What I'll read next:

The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett. This book has been on my radar for a while, and I almost bought it multiple times. I'm glad I didn't, as I was able to get a review copy. It has very mixed reviews, so I hope I'm one of the people who likes it!

  2. I missed the fourth in the Jody Hedlund series, but loved the first three so I'll have to hunt up the two you mentioned. I'm currently reading The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill as well.

    1. Oh, you definitely should find them, Kym. Forever Safe is definitely my favorite of the series, and Never Forget is very good as well! I read a little more in The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill last night, and I think I'm really going to like it. Hope you do, too. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I'm reading a YA novel by Kasie West currently (SO CUTE!) and next I have a YA fantasy. After that, who knows! Glad you enjoyed Jody's latest. Those are books I have to read yet. :)
