Top Ten Tuesday: 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic from The Broke & The Bookish goes nicely with the Mount TBR reading challenge I'm doing this year. The official topic is "Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To (But TOTALLY Plan To)" ... but I'm going to adapt it to Top Ten 2016 Releases I Own But Haven't Read Yet.

The Waves Break Gray by Sibella Giorello

Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't tear into this the second it arrived on my Kindle. It's the long-awaited next installment in Giorello's wonderful Raleigh Harmon series.

Everyone Brave Is Forgiven by Chris Cleave

I've heard so many good things about this novel. Plus, it's set during World War II, which is my favorite time period to read about.

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty

Still haven't read a Moriarty novel, so this will be my first. I was so excited to get it on sale, but then it just got buried among all the other books ... sound familiar to anyone?

Unblemished by Sara Ella

I've heard great things about Ella's debut novel. I honestly don't really know what it's about, but isn't that cover gorgeous?

The Newsmakers and The Candidate by Lis Wiehl with Sebastian Stuart

I loved Wiehl's Triple Threat series, but I quit reading her East Salem trilogy after the second book—I don't do well with supernatural novels as a rule (though there certainly some notable exceptions). The Newsmakers series looks to be largely political and media-based, so I should be good!

Where There's Smoke by Susan May Warren

How is it that I have a Susan May Warren novel languishing unread on my Kindle? This situation must be remedied soon!

Twilight at Blueberry Barrens by Colleen Coble

This book is the conclusion of Coble's Sunset Cove series. It's my favorite Coble series yet, so I'm looking forward to finishing with Twilight at Blueberry Barrens.

A Portrait of Emily Price by Katherine Reay

Reay's debut, Dear Mr. Knightley, was my favorite book of 2013. I still haven't gotten to Lizzy & Jane yet, and I liked-but-didn't-love The Brontë Plot. I'm hoping I'll love A Portrait of Emily Price almost as much as I loved Knightley.

The Things We Wish Were True by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen

I got this one free as a Kindle First Prime benefit, and I was practically giddy when I selected it. (Most of the Kindle First books are by authors I've never heard of, but I've enjoyed books by Whalen before.) Now to find the time to read it ...

Have you read any of these books? What books did you intend to read in 2016 that you just didn't get around to? Let's chat in the comments!

  1. I read Twilight at Blueberry Barrens last year and enjoyed it. This year I want to get to an older series of hers set in Hawaii that I didn't quite get around to last year. I haven't read that series by Lis Wiehl did like her Mia Quinn Mystery series. I wouldn't do well with the supernatural one either. And I too am still trying to get to a Lianne Moriarty story. I did a challenge last year called Read the books you buy. Didn't do too bad but have lots leftover from that one.

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed Twilight at Blueberry Barrens, Susanne! I'm going on a trip in February, and I plan to take it with me. I've been curious about Lis Wiehl's Mia Quinn series--I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! I'm doing Read the Books You Buy this year, and so far I've only bought one, so I'm not too far behind :-)

  2. I haven't read Susan's series, but do now own all the paperbacks, so hopefully I'll prioritize them in 2017! Hope you enjoy Sara's too - and all of these books. :) Happy 2017 TBR-ing, Becky.
