It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (3-27-17)

Hosted by The Book Date

Happy Monday! I'm working on this much earlier in the day that usual—I normally throw this together at the last minute on Monday evening. But I'm taking a half vacation day today because I'm going to meet with a guy from the city about my trees. (Turns out, all of my trees but one or two actually belong to the city, so they decide whether a tree can be removed.) So while I'm waiting, I'm blogging :-)

First of all, we need to talk about March Madness. I did predict one of the Final Four correctly (Gonzaga). Boy, was that Kansas game vs. Oregon painful! (Unless you're an Oregon fan, in which case you probably loved it.) But there were several other games that were fun to watch—like both of Florida's games. And next weekend's games look to be fun, too!

So last week ended up being nothing like I'd planned, as I got smacked by a nasty cold that had me down for days. Normally when I'm sick, I read a ton ... but my head was so fuzzy that reading didn't really appeal. So instead, I watched tons of TV and terrible movies. (I wrote about what I watched here.) Once I started feeling better, I did read a bit...

What I read last week:

When Tides Turn by Sarah Sundin. This is the book I first attempted when I was sick ... and I could not follow it at all. Thanks, brain fog! Once my brain was firing on all cylinders again, I couldn't get enough of this book! It's a great conclusion to Sundin's Waves of Freedom series. (5 stars)

Beauty by Robin McKinley. This Beauty & the Beast retelling was published in 1978, but it feels like it could have been written today. Overall, I enjoyed the story, though I wish there would have been more Beast. (review & rating to come tomorrow)

What I'm reading now:

Just the Way You Are by Pepper Basham. I made minimal progress in this book last week, but I'm still really enjoying it!

What I'll read next:

Life After by Katie Ganshert. Yes, I already started this one, but I haven't touched it in a good two weeks. I need to get into it again!

What are you reading now? Have you read any of these? And, if you filled out a March Madness bracket, how's it holding up?

  1. I can't get enough Beauty and the Beast, but I've missed out on Robin McKinley's take, apparently. Going to have to take a look for that one!
Here's my reading list for this week: http://bit.ly/2ntgCD7

    1. I'd never even heard of McKinley before Beauty popped up on a Kindle deals list; really, I'm surprised it didn't find her in the 90's :-)

      Thanks for stopping by!
