Review Wrap-Up #3: September 15, 2017

Welcome to Review Wrap-Up #3! Over the past month, I reviewed nine books, and I enjoyed most of them! I also read a disproportionate amount of YA fiction—sometimes I do that; I get "stuck" in a genre and read whatever I can get my hands on.

Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery (buy it)

Genre: Historical Fiction
My Rating: 4 stars
Quick Take: Besides the Anne-Gil romance, my favorite aspect of this novel is the presence of Davy Keith, an orphan taken in by Marilla. He was completely left out of the 1980's miniseries, and the character was a welcome addition to the story I thought I knew.

High as the Heavens by Kate Breslin (buy it)

Genre: Inspirational Historical Fiction
My Rating: 3 stars
Quick Take: While this World War I novel is written well, for whatever reason, it just didn't land with me.

Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason (buy it)

Tag Line: "Intensity. Skill. Tenacity. The bodyguards of Elite Guardians Agency have it all."
Genre: Inspirational Romantic Suspense
My Rating: 4 stars
Quick Take: Chasing Secrets is a wonderful conclusion to Eason's Elite Guardians series.

God's Crime Scene for Kids by J. Warner Wallace & Susie Wallace (buy it)

Tag Line: "Hone your reasoning skills as you investigate evidence in the universe to determine the most reasonable cause for everything we see in creation."
Genre: Apologetics (for children)
My Rating: 5 stars
Quick Take: Once again, the Wallaces have written an enjoyable, interactive book that teaches children how to think critically about the claims of the Bible.

The Two of Us by Victoria Bylin (buy it)

Genre: Inspirational Romance
My Rating: 4 stars
Quick Take: I had a visceral reaction to this novel because it prominently features an Alzheimer's plot line—while I struggled with it for that reason, it is a very well-written and engaging novel.

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum (buy it)

Tag Line: "What if the person you need most is someone you've never met?"
Genre: YA romance
My Rating: 4-1/2 stars
Quick Take: I. Loved. This. Book. Reminiscent of You've Got Mail, it's one of the most enjoyable reading experiences I've had in a long time.

A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham (buy it)

Tag Line: "Will a wager against her future steal her chance at true love?"
Genre: Inspirational Romance
My Rating: 3-1/2 stars
Quick Take: Though I struggled to get into the novel at first, I ended up really enjoying it!

Dating on the Dork Side by Charity Tahmaseb & Darcy Vance (buy it)

Genre: YA romance
My Rating: 3-1/2 stars
Quick Take: For fans of The Duff and Easy A, this is a fun high school drama, though the end isn't quite as good as the beginning.

Adorkable by Cookie O'Gorman (buy it)

Tag Line: "Adorkable (ah-dor-kuh-bul): Descriptive term meaning to be equal parts dorky and adorable. For reference, see Sally Spitz."
Genre: YA romance
My rating: 4 stars
Quick take: This "fake relationship turned real" novel is such fun that I could easily overlook its flaws.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
