It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (4-23-18)

Yes, it's been forever since I participated in an "It's Monday!" And it doesn't even really make sense that I'm posting today, as I haven't been doing much reading. But that actually is why I'm posting today—I've been so busy lately that I haven't posted much new content on the blog, and I figured "It's Monday!" would be a nice, quick post.

We've reached the insanely busy season of work—just a few weeks of school left, a yearbook to finish, events to promote, a final student council bash to plan, a newsletter to put out. While I don't often bring my work home with me (a "positive" to being an hourly rather than salaried employee), crazy brain-draining days at work leave me too wiped out to do much reading when I get home. This is especially true when I run into a book that's a slower read (as is happening right now) ... Plus, baseball is back, and I am here for it. It seems that I can read while the Cubs are on defense, but not when they're batting. So a lot of my normal reading time is now taken up by listening to Pat & Ron call Cubs games on the radio!

Anyway, here's what I've been reading when I'm not listening to a Cubs game!

What I read last week:

A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette. I really enjoyed this adventure story that shines light on Israel's cities of refuge. Fantastic biblical fiction! (4-1/2 stars)

What I'm reading now:

Julie by Catherine Marshall. I really enjoyed reading Marshall's Christy last year (it even made my top ten list), so I signed up for a blog tour for her other novel, Julie. Here's what I'm discovering: Julie is not a quick read. It's interesting, but it's slow going ... which is a problem, as my post is due Wednesday morning! In fact I should really be reading instead of blogging right now ...

Pelican Point by Irene Hannon. This was my lunch break read last week until I realized I was going to need to devote all my spare reading time to Julie. I just love Hannon's Hope Harbor series—it reminds me of the Cedar Cove series that used to air on Hallmark Channel. I'm looking forward to getting back to Pelican Point later this week!

What I'll read next:

I don't know why I even try to predict ... but right now, Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty is sounding good. My library hold just came in, so we'll see if I can get it read in the next two weeks!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? And what are you reading now? I'm always looking for books to add to my (insanely long) TBR list!

  1. I finished Big Little Lies last week! It’s my favorite Moriarty to date! Just started Hold Back the Stars by Katie Khan, which MMD recommended on her podcast recently.

    1. I watched the first episode during a free HBO preview weekend. I'd definitely like to watch the rest, but I'd like to read the book first. This will be my first Moriarty book--glad to hear you like her so much! Thanks for stopping by!
