First Line Fridays: "A Tale of Two Hearts"
Happy Friday! It's been a long week, thanks in part to the marathon Cubs game on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning ... which ended (finally!) after 13 innings. It didn't go the way I wanted and ended the Cubs' season. And, while I wish they could've gone all the way (or at least beyond the Wild Card), I'm also kind of relieved ... because I'll be getting WAY more sleep this October than I did the last two Octobers! I've also enjoyed watching some stress-free baseball over the last couple of days, and I'm struck once again just how strange it is that I like baseball. I love the Cubs, but I actually enjoy baseball even when the Cubs aren't involved. I guess people really can change 🤣.
For this week's First Line Fridays, I'm sharing the first line of the book that I'm almost finished reading: A Tale of Two Hearts by Michelle Griep.
London, 1853
In the tiny back courtyard of the Golden Egg Inn, Mina Scott lowered her copy of David Copperfield to her lap and lifted her face to the October sun.
This is the second book in Griep's Once upon a Dickens Christmas series, and I'm enjoying it. I just love Christmas books, don't you? (Also, it feels like Christmas is on the way today, so that helps set the mood!) Now I just need a fire to curl up by while I read ...
Check out the book on Amazon & Goodreads.
Read my review of 12 Days at Bleakly Manor, the first book in the series.

Happy Friday! I forgot about this week being about favorite genre but I DID share one from one of my favorite authors. I have to say historical fiction is my favorite, but I also like suspense to change things up a bit. I'm currently in-between books but I'll be be starting a new book after dinner tonight. Hope you have a great weekend with lots of quality reading time!
ReplyDeleteI forgot about the theme, too--contemporary romance is my favorite. But I do love a good Christmas story, and this one fits the bill . Happy reading--isn't it so great to start a new book?
DeleteHappy Friday!😊
ReplyDeleteMy first lines come from Jacob's Bell by John Snyder...
A deafening screech, then a loud thud jolted Jacob McCallum upright from his slumber as the freight train pulled into the Chicago yards on a chilly September morning in 1944.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚🎃
Sounds intriguing, Susan! Happy reading, and have a great weekend!
DeleteHappy Weekend! My first line is from Until I Met You by Kimberly Rose Johnson, which is included in the collection A Christmas To Remember:
ReplyDelete"Early Saturday morning, Brandi Prescott held her latte in one hand and opened the door to leave her favorite coffee shop in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle."
I LOVE Christmas stories (I mean, obviously, as my book this week is a Christmas story)--I'll have to check this out! Thanks for stopping by, Becky
DeleteHappy Friday! I’m featuring Lady of a Thousand Treasures by Sandra Byrd on my blog, here is the second line:
ReplyDelete“All present quickened as lightning pierced the ground just outside the wide panel of windows, like a finger pointing deep within the earth.”
I have yet to read anything by Sandra Byrd, but this sure sounds intriguing! Thanks for stopping by, Yvette!
