It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (10-1-18)

It's Monday again ... and it's been a Monday, if you know what I mean. My day started out at the dentist, where I learned what I feared: I have a cracked tooth. It's apparently not terrible yet, so we can take a watch and wait approach, but eventually I'll need a crown. Joy.

Then I burned my mouth on scalding hot pizza (gluten free! So maybe I shouldn't complain about a burned mouth because at least I got to have pizza!). It was a really good pizza, though 😃.

Then the Cubs lost to the Brewers in the division tiebreaker. So they have to play in the Wild Card game tomorrow, even though they have the second-best record in the entire National League. I've been ranting about how stupid MLB's playoff system is to anyone who will listen over the last week, so I won't go into it here—I'll just leave you a link to an article that says basically what I've been saying. (It's two years old, and MLB has actually fixed one thing he talks about: home field advantage for the World Series is no longer determined by the outcome of the All-Star Game.) Here's the highlight: "The fix is easy. Keep the same five playoff slots per league, but seed them by record. Make the first round a best-of-three if you want to avoid a division winner going out after one game." PLEASE, MLB!!!

Anyway, I'm ready to move on to Tuesday!

What I read last week:

Can you believe I didn't finish one book last week? I started several but finished none ...

What I'm reading now:

The Writing Desk by Rachel Hauck. I've had this one for ... well, since whenever it released (probably a year ago?). I finally picked it up during one of my lunch breaks last week, and it's really interesting! Hauck's books are always good, and I expect I'll end up loving this one, too.

A Tale of Two Hearts by Michelle Griep. This is loosely connected to 12 Days at Bleakly Manor, which I really enjoyed. Plus, it's a fake relationship turned real, which is one of my favorite tropes, so I have high hopes!

Rose in Three Quarter Time by Rachel McMillan. I've been reading lots of good things about this novella, and at just 99¢, it was worth a gamble. So far, so good!

What I'll read next:

Shelter of the Most High by Connilyn Cossette. I've been looking forward to this book for a while now—it continues the story begun in A Light on the Hill, which I loved!
