First Line Fridays: "Whose Waves These Are"

Happy Friday, friends! School's out for the summer (my condolences to those of you who go into June ...), so my boss has decided to let us adjust our office hours, and we're now officially closed at noon on Fridays! I still have lots of yearbooking to do, so this long weekend won't actually be much of a break for me, but at least I can work on the book from the comfort of my living room (with the Cubs game on, currently) instead of in the office!

For my return to First Line Fridays, I'm featuring Amanda Dykes' Whose Waves These Are. This book is getting a lot of positive buzz, and I've finally had the chance to pull it off the shelf and start it! I'm sure that reading this book is one thing I'll accomplish over this Memorial Day weekend 🙂.

Prologue
"Every wave in that big old blue sea is a story."

I started this on my lunch break yesterday, and, through three chapters, I've already almost cried once. So I'm thinking this might be an emotional read!

Check out the book on Goodreads and Amazon.

  1. Happy Weekend! My first line is from "The Black Veil" by June Belfie:

"Rebecca Gingerich rested her hands on the the deep milk-white sill of the kitchen window and peered out from the clapboard farmhouse she'd been born in nearly twenty-three years ago to the day."

  2. This book is a gorgeous read!

My first line this week comes from Flight of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse, but I'm also listening to Great Expectations by Charles Dickens in audio book format at the moment, so I'm going to share the first line from Chapter 51:

What purpose I had in view when I was hot on tracing out and proving Estella's parentage, I cannot say.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. I have told myself over and over the past few weeks that I can't add ANYTHING to my pile until I get it down more but all the reviews for this one have me thinking I might bend for it haha. Hope you enjoy it!
Sorry I'm a little late coming around this weekend! The book I shared on my blog this week is Vigilant by Sara Davison but it's also the book I'm currently reading so I'll share the first line from my current chapter (22) here: "Daniel stared at the computer screen like he'd been doing for hours, his mind racing." Hope you have a wonderful weekend with plenty of quality reading time! :)
