Review: "Sweet on You" by Becky Wade

Seven years ago, I picked up a little book called My Stubborn Heart by an author I'd never heard of. I loved it, and I couldn't shut up about it. I lent it to anyone who asked me for a book recommendation, I named it my favorite book of the year, and I eagerly awaited news of the author's next book.

Ever since then, I've read everything Becky Wade has written. When my sister talks about her, she calls her "your girl Becky Wade" ... because I definitely haven't kept my love for her books quiet!

For the last two years—ever since I read book one of the Bradford Sisters series—I've been anticipating Britt Bradford's story. And now, it's finally here!

Britt Bradford and Zander Ford have been the best of friends since they met thirteen years ago. Unbeknownst to Britt, Zander has been in love with her for just as long.

Independent and adventurous Britt channels her talent into creating chocolates at her hometown shop. Zander is a bestselling author who has spent the past eighteen months traveling the world. He's achieved a great deal but still lacks the only thing that ever truly mattered to him--Britt's heart.

When Zander's uncle dies under mysterious circumstances, he returns to Merryweather, Washington, to investigate, and Britt is immediately there to help. Although this throws them into close proximity, both understand that an attempt at romance could jeopardize their once-in-a-lifetime friendship. Britt is determined to resist any change in their relationship, but Zander finds it increasingly difficult to keep his feelings hidden.

As they work together to uncover his uncle's tangled past, will the truth of what lies between them also finally come to light?

What a great conclusion to the Bradford Sisters series! Readers who've been with the series from the beginning have long anticipated Zander and Britt's romance, and it does not disappoint. (This is the place where I tell you that you absolutely should read these books in order because they are amazing, but you could pick up Sweet on You without having read the other books and have no problem jumping right in.)

Zander Ford has been in love with Britt Bradford since high school, and everyone knows except Britt. He even left their hometown to go on a world tour mainly because he couldn't stand to watch Britt in yet another relationship. When he cuts his trip short and returns home following his uncle's death, things finally begin to change.

Watching Britt slowly realize just what Zander means to her and seeing Zander finally decide to do something about his feelings for Britt makes for a really enjoyable reading experience! The "friends to lovers" trope is one of my favorites, and Wade does it so well here.

As has been the case with each book in the series, Wade also includes an intriguing mystery, this time surrounding Zander's uncle's death and surprising past. This mystery not only leads Zander and Britt closer to each other, but it also helps Britt confront her reliance on herself and helps her recognize her need to trust the Lord.

At nearly 400 pages, Sweet on You is a long book, but I wish it was even longer! As is always the case with a Becky Wade book, I finished the book before I was ready to leave the characters behind. And now comes the wait for Wade's next novel! 5 stars.
