Review: "Seconds to Live" by Susan Sleeman

If you're a little "sapped out" after the Christmas movie season, Seconds to Live might just be the palate cleanser you need!

When cybercriminals hack into the U.S. Marshal's Witness Protection database and auction off personal details to the highest bidder, FBI Agent Sean Nichols begins a high-stakes chase to find the hacker. Trouble is, he has to work with U.S. Marshal Taylor Mills, who knows the secrets of his past, and the seconds are ticking down before someone dies.

I really loved certain aspects of this novel. The team/family atmosphere with Sean's RED Team, the rush to catch Phantom, and the twists and turns of the story and not knowing who was trustworthy all kept me flying through the pages. This is a well-plotted and paced suspense novel!

The one aspect that didn't quite work for me was the romance. Taylor and Sean—as a romantic pair—just annoyed me. They both questioned their friendship/relationship multiple times, and they had some (probably valid) reasons for why they wouldn't work as a couple. Trust was a major issue for both of them, and after the way Sean reacted to something near the end, I couldn't believe how quickly things turned around. I can't imagine they would actually find a "happily ever after," at least not right away. That said, this is book one of a series, so maybe they will have some issues down the road.

Overall, though, I did enjoy this book, and I would happily read others in the series. I really liked Sean's team, and I'd enjoy learning more about them. 3 stars.

  1. This is a great looking read! I am so ready to put the Christmas Movie season behind me, love em, but glad to be done! I started 2020 with Choices by Jacquelyn Lynn, joyfulcupstory.com is her site. Her new series is the Joyful Cup Story series and Choices is the fist book. If the rest are as good as the fist then I can't wait!!!

    1. I know what you mean about the Christmas movie season! I love the movies so much, but 2-1/2 months of them is a little excessive! I've not heard of this author before, but I'll be sure to check her out. Thanks for stopping by!
