Read with Us 2020: A Re-Read

For our March book in the Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge, we chose A Re-Read. This turned out to be a great choice, as when things went upside down with the coronavirus, I had trouble concentrating on reading, and revisiting an old friend was nice.

Steph's Pick: Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

This month was my annual trip to Florida to visit Val. (Note: This was prior to all the Covid-19 stuff.) I first read Tell Me Three Things on that trip last year, so it only felt right to pick it again—it’s a quick read, which is what you want for the beach, and has just the right amount of teen angst to distract you from your regular life. The story follows Jessie as she deals with starting a new school and a new blended family. An anonymous email shows up in her inbox offering to be her school guide. Desperate to navigate these dangerous social waters, Jessie takes the help and starts a new friendship. My favorite thing that they do is to tell each other three random things each day. I’ve started doing it with some of my friends and it’s been enlightening and entertaining. There are no rules as to what the things can be—just a fun way to list random thoughts or ideas. The book was engaging and fun. I would recommend.

Becky's Pick: Seaside Letters by Denise Hunter

Over the last decade, Denise Hunter has been one of my favorite romance writers. Seaside Letters is one of the first of her novels that I read. Since then, I've read literally hundreds of books, so I couldn't remember much of Seaside Letters beyond the basic plot, which is rather You've Got Mail-esque. Re-reading turned out to be a great choice!

Here's the gist: Sabrina and Tucker know each other casually—he's a frequent customer at the diner she works at. They also know each other online, and Sabrina has figured out that the person she's corresponding with is Tucker. So when he hires her to find his mystery woman, she panics ... how can she keep Tucker from learning the woman he's falling in love with online is the woman who serves him coffee each morning?

This book is too cute! My synopsis above is a bit misleading, as there's a big chunk of information missing, info that the reader learns fairly early on. But I didn't want to spoil anything! Overall, the book is simply delightful, slightly unexpected, and wholly romantic. And I loved the way Tucker wooed Sabrina both online and in person. It's a lovely, clean rom-com with depth, and I highly recommend it. 5 stars.

And that's it for March! Have you re-read a book recently? If so, what, and why did you pick it?
