Review: "Molly" by Sarah Monzon

I've read a few of Sarah Monzon's books in the past, and I especially enjoyed her Book Nerds & Boyfriends rom-coms. So when I heard about her new Sewing in SoCal series, I knew I wanted to try it out.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I absolutely refuse to tell a lie no matter the consequences. So don’t ask me a direct question unless you’re prepared for a direct answer—that’s something my SoCal sewing girlfriends have learned the hard way.
But who would have thought my honesty policy would get me fired from my job at the preschool? Or that a desperate—and not to mention devastatingly handsome—single father of one of my (now-former) students would hire me that same day as a nanny for his daughter?
I’m an education professional. How hard can taking care of a four-year-old and her over-stressed, over-worked father be?

Molly is an enjoyable romantic comedy that can be read in just a couple of hours. Titular character Molly is a quirky, honest-to-a-fault heroine, and Ben makes a pretty swoon-worthy leading man. I loved the awkward conversations Molly was always getting into due to her compulsion to always tell the truth (even when she could resolve the situation without lying). And there was some definite romantic chemistry between Molly and Ben!

I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly, and, while I liked Molly, I didn't feel fully connected to her. Maybe that has something to do with the shorter length of the book (199 pages).

I do have to give props to Monzon for resolving something between Molly and Ben in an adult, opposite-of-what-usually-happens-in-rom-coms kind of way. (I can't tell you what it is because spoilers, but you'll recognize the situation when you get there.) I love when authors get away from the "formula" a bit, and Monzon definitely does that here!

If you're looking for a quick, romantic read, definitely give Molly a shot. 4 stars.
