Review: "Come Back to Me" by Jody Hedlund

She had me at time travel. Then I saw this gorgeous cover, and I was a goner!

The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy.

That's exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father's quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising.

William Durham, a valiant knight comes to Marian's rescue and offers her protection . . . as his wife. The longer Marian stays in the past, the more she cares about William. Can she ever find her father and make it back to the present to heal her sister? And when the time comes to leave, will she want to?

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund is your guide down the twisting waters of time to a volatile era of superstition, revolts, and chivalry in this suspenseful story.

I have long loved books, movies, and TV shows that deal with time (the time loop is my favorite when it's done well). When I heard that Jody Hedlund, one of my favorite historical romance writers, was writing a time travel romance, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it ... and it was so worth the wait!

While I love time travel, I think those who aren't particular fans of the genre will enjoy this book, as well. Why? First of all, the romance. (This is a Jody Hedlund book, after all!) The connection between Marian and Will is crackling with chemistry, and I absolutely loved the respect Will showed her. There's also danger and intrigue (in both timelines), likeable supporting characters (including two who will be featured in the next Waters of Time novel), and what's really a fairly plausible reason for the time travel.

Overall, this is a lovely book that had me enchanted from the first page, and I can't wait for the next book in the series! 5 stars.

Note: If you loved this book and are looking for more time travel romance, I'd definitely recommend picking up Tamara Leigh's Dreamspell, which has a similar setup (my review).
