Review: "The Single Dad's Holiday Match" by Tanya Agler

Oh, Harlequin ... you really know how to create titles 🤣. Believe it or not, The Single Dad's Holiday Match is not about online dating, takes place over the span of three holidays, and is just as much about the "match" as it is about the "single dad." It's also a better book than the title would imply.

'Tis the season…For unexpected love!

Officer Jonathan Maxwell is just as devoted to his job as he is to his two young daughters, leaving zero time for a social life. Until he meets Brooke Novak. The newly hired community center director is a single parent, too, and also part of his latest investigation. Jonathan needs Brooke’s help if he's going to close his case by Thanksgiving…but she might be the biggest distraction from keeping his mind on his job.

The Single Dad's Holiday Match is an engaging story about Brooke, the new director of Hollydale's community center, and Jonathan, the police officer investigating a fake id ring that is possibly being run out of the center. Both are single parents who are hesitant to get involved with someone new, but their attraction cannot be denied.

The fall setting for this novel is lots of fun, especially as we're now fully into the season. And fall is definitely a featured part of the novel, with pumpkin patches, fall festivals, and Thanksgiving all coming into play.

For me, the investigation into the fake id's is what kept me turning the pages. While some things (like Brooke's hesitance to disclose something to Jonathan that would help his investigation) drove me crazy, I had to know how the mystery would turn out! I also really enjoyed Brooke's son Colin and the way he looked out for Brooke.

While the writing style wasn't one I really connected with (full disclosure: I rarely really connect with Harlequin novels), I think fans of the Harlequin Heartwarming line will greatly enjoy this novel. 3 stars.

Content note: This is a Harlequin Heartwarming title, so there is no swearing or sexual content - just a couple not-even-close-to-heated kisses. In other words, if you're a fan of clean reads, don't let the name Harlequin scare you off!
