Here's the thing: it's becoming more and more difficult to tell which books will be clean and which ones won't. I've started some books that looked (and sounded) like they'd be heat-level sweet that turned out to be filled with swearing and sex. Then there are books like #Starstruck that look like they might be erotica but are actually clean. It's so hard to tell, even when you read reviews, which I always do. (I'm not taking about Christian books here, just ones in the general market.)
#Starstruck isn't a book I'd normally pick up, but it was available thru Prime reading, and the reviews made it sound fairly clean. I decided to give it a shot.
“You’ve done better.”
With one uncharacteristically sassy tweet to her longtime celebrity crush, Zoe Miller’s life turns upside down. Ultrahot A-lister Chase Covington doesn’t just respond to Zoe’s tweet, he does the unthinkable: he messages Zoe directly. Now she must decide between walking away or meeting her crush in person.
Chase knows better than to trust anyone from the Internet, but Zoe’s saucy challenge has totally caught his interest—and her girl-next-door personality is keeping it. He’s been burned enough to know he needs to keep his heart close. But his feelings for Zoe might be a lot more than just an online flirtation. He just has to convince her…
When the press gets wind of Zoe and Chase’s secret relationship, their romance turns into tabloid headlines. Will they be able to hold on to their Hollywood love story?
This book is so cute! And funny. Like, actually laughing out loud funny. I think I liked it so much because of how I could relate to Zoe. I mean, what girl hasn't dreamed of meeting her favorite movie star and having him fall desperately in love with her? (Dean Cain, anyone? Maybe that's just me 😉) Zoe's introversion and insecurities when it comes to men struck a chord with me.
The BIG CONFLICT was a bit over the top, but I could get past that because I just loved the story so much! Also, I loved the way Zoe felt so strongly about remaining a virgin until marriage and wasn't embarrassed by it—she could defend her choice and present valid arguments (beyond religious beliefs) for why she felt it was best for her.
Now I have another author to join names like Kasie West, Judy Corry, and Shari L. Tapscott as go-tos for clean YA and New Adult romance 🙂. I'm eager to continue the series with #Moonstruck. 4 stars.
Note: I'd give this book a very mild PG-13 rating. There's no swearing or sex, though sex is discussed multiple times. And Zoe's kisses with Chase do become pretty heated at times. If I had an older teenage daughter, I'd absolutely let her read this book; not only is it much cleaner than most of what's in the YA and New Adult market, but it could also lead to some good discussions about abstinence.

Bestselling author Sariah Wilson has never jumped out of an airplane, never climbed Mt. Everest, and is not a former CIA operative. She has, however, been madly, passionately in love with her soulmate and is a fervent believer in happily ever afters—which is why she writes romance. She has published many happily ever after stories. She grew up in southern California, graduated from Brigham Young University (go Cougars!) with a semi-useless degree in history, and is the oldest of nine (yes, nine) children. She currently lives with the aforementioned soulmate and their four children in Utah, along with three tiger barb fish, a cat named Tiger, and a recently departed hamster that is buried in the backyard (and has nothing at all to do with tigers).
