Review Policy

Review Requests

I am currently accepting requests for book reviews on Christian Chick's Thoughts. I accept books from the following genres:
  • Christian fiction (all genres)
  • YA fiction (free of explicit sex or language)
  • Christian non-fiction (Christian living, self-help, women's focus)
  • Non-fiction (biographies, historical)
  • Sweet/clean romance (no sex outside of marriage and not explicit within marriage)
I am much more inclined to accept Christian/sweet romance and YA fiction than any other genres. You are welcome to pitch your book, as long as it fits into one of the above categories, but know that I give preference to my preferred genres.

I will not accept General Market Romance (unless it is "sweet" as defined above), erotica, or technical books.

I accept books in paperback (preferred), audio (Audible preferred), MOBI, or PDF.

Because I participate in many blog tours that have specific post dates, I cannot guarantee that your book will make it to the top of my pile anytime soon. It currently takes me between 4 and 6 months to review books that do not have a specific deadline. That said, if you are touring your book, I will check my schedule and see if the dates of your tour will fit into my calendar.

I will review every book I accept (but it may take me a long time to do so). I post reviews on this blog, Amazon, FacebookGoodreads, Instagram and Pinterest. I will also post on LibraryThing and/or Twitter if requested.

I never sell books I receive for review. If I do not wish to keep them, I either throw them away (ARCs) or donate them to my school's library.

If your book falls into one of the acceptable categories and you would like me to consider reviewing your book, please shoot me an email at beckyritta [at] gmail [dot] com. If I'm interested, I'll get back to you in a timely manner. If you don't hear from me, please assume I am not interested in reviewing your book at this time. Please understand that, due to the volume of requests and my other commitments, I can only agree to review a handful of the books offered each year.

I do not review books that are sent unsolicited.

Rating System

I use a 5-star rating system. My stars carry the same meaning on my blog as they do on Amazon: 1–I hate it. 2–I don't like it. 3–It's OK. 4–I like it. 5–I love it. If a book falls between two star ratings, then I will assign a half star. Books that receive a half star on my blog will be rounded up on Amazon. (For example, a book receiving 3-1/2 stars here will receive 4 stars on Amazon.) Note that the Goodreads rating system is a bit stricter, so many times books will receive a half or full star less there than they do on the blog. (Goodreads' system: 1–Did not like it. 2–It was OK. 3–Liked it. 4–Really liked it. 5–It was amazing.)

Because I only agree to review books that I think I will like, I rarely give a star rating below 3. You'll see lots of 4- and 5-star ratings on my blog because I've become very good at anticipating whether I'll like a book. That said, I will be honest. If I don't like your book, I will say so (hopefully in a kind and constructive way), and the star rating will reflect that fact.

Disclosure of Material Connection

Due to FTC regulations, I post a disclosure similar to the following on all my book reviews:

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from ________. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Any posts with affiliate links will be identified right before or after the links (depending on the type of post) and always at the bottom of the post.
