First Line Fridays: "Sweet on You"

Happy Friday, friends! This week has been A WEEK, you know what I mean? But it's been nothing compared to what many of my fellow Nebraskans are dealing with. Last week, we saw historic flooding that has devastated many towns; destroyed countless bridges, roads, and property; caused the loss of many livestock; and has led to the deaths of at least three people, maybe more.

I'm safe. My family is safe. We've had zero damage in my town, but towns nearby have been completely flooded and in some cases totally cut off from everything. Here's a look at some of the flooding—really just the tip of the iceberg. (That first photo? I drove over that bridge a week ago Wednesday. It was out by Thursday morning.) The devastation is astronomical, and the cleanup and rebuilding process will take a long time. So when you think of Nebraska, would you pray for all the people impacted? Though the flood waters are receding, the heartache they've caused will last much longer.
How do you segue from a topic like historic flooding to a bookish meme? I don't know, but here we go ...

This week, I'm featuring Becky Wade's upcoming release Sweet on You—a book it feels like I've been waiting forever for! I'm reading an ARC through NetGalley right now, and I can't wait to have the paperback in my hands next month!

Five hundred and eleven days had passed since he'd seen her last.

I'm so excited to read the rest of Zander & Britt's story!!!

Check out the book on Goodreads & Amazon.

What are you currently reading? Share the first line in the comments, and then head over to Hoarding Books to see what others are sharing!

P.S. If you saw my last FLF several weeks ago, you know I was obsessing over The Masked Singer. Well, I was right: Joey Fatone was the Rabbit!!!

  1. Happy Friday! My first line is from “How the Light Gets In” by Jolina Petersheim:

“The caskets were closed, of course.”

  2. Today I'm sharing the first line from The Lady of Tarpon Springs by Judith Miller:

"Zanna Krykos closed her eyes and offered a silent prayer for God's direction."

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Sounds intriguing! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I live in New Zealand, so yes. This has been a week. The events are a long way from me, but I'm still reeling from the news.

I'm glad you and your family are safe. Things can be replaced, even if it takes time.

I think Sweet on You is a perfect read if you've had that kind of week! I've already read it once, and I think I'm going to want to read it again to truly appreciate it.

I'm sharing the first line from The King's Mercy by Lori Benton on my blog today, and that's what I'm currently reading. It's my first Lori Benton book and I've heard great things about her writing, so I have high expectations!

    1. Oh, Iola, I can't even imagine.

I didn't make any progress on Sweet on You over the weekend because it was crazy, but I'm looking forward to diving back in!

I have The King's Mercy waiting for me--I adored Benton's Many Sparrows. Hope you're enjoying the book!

  4. Happy Friday! I'm sharing from General Meade: A Novel of the Civil War by Robert Kofman on my blog, here's the first line from the next book I'll be starting, Beauty in Battle by Robin Patchen:

"Darkness swallowed Harper's rental home even before Jack navigated his pickup around the corner."

    1. Sounds intriguing ... and perhaps like a book that might be too scary for me ;-)

  5. I can't believe we both featured the same book for First Line Friday this week.
