2017 Reading Challenges: Mid-Year Update

Full disclosure: I pretty much forgot about my reading challenges. Life got crazy—very crazy—in May and early June, and I was just struggling to keep my head above water. Things have slowed down for now, though, so I'm playing catch up. And this is one of those things I'm catching up on—more for me than you, though you're welcome to keep reading to see how I'm doing!

Mount TBR

Mount TBR, which is about reading books you owned prior to the beginning of the year, isn't going so well ... though it is going slightly better than my intro post would indicate! I post books on the intro post after I've published the review. So it looks like I've only read two books (Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige Hill [3 stars] and The Healer's Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson [4-1/2 stars]), but I've actually also finished The Merchant's Daughter by Melanie Dickerson and A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham. Now I just have to get those reviews written and posted!

Still, I'm behind: I've read four books I already owned at the beginning of the year, and I should've read six or seven by now to be on track with my goal of reading 12 previously owned books this year.

Read the Books You Buy

This challenge is going even worse than Mount TBR! I chose to go for the Maximizing Returns level of reading 61-80% of books that I buy this year. As of today, I have purchased 23 books and read four. That's a 17% read rate!

Here are the ones I've purchased and read: The Captive Heart by Michelle Griep (read in February; 4-1/2 stars), Then Came You by Becky Wade (read in March; 4 stars), The Lassoed by Marriage Romance Collection (read in April; 4 stars), and Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia (read in July; 4 stars).

Reading for Fun

I didn't officially join Modern Mrs. Darcy's reading challenge this year, but I am following along to see which of the books I read would fit into one of the categories. MMD has two reading challenges this year, Reading for Fun and Reading for Growth. Obviously, Reading for Fun sounds much more like me :-)

A book you chose for the cover: The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson (4 stars)
A book with a reputation for being unputdownable: Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng (3-1/2 stars)
A book you've already read: Thanks to the INSPYs, I've read three—Just a Kiss by Denise Hunter (5 stars), Her One and Only by Becky Wade (5 stars), and You're the One that I Want by Susan May Warren (5 stars).

Really, three out of twelve at the halfway point isn't too shabby!

Are you doing any reading challenges this year? If so, I hope you're doing better than I am!
