A few weeks ago, my cousin Alexis read Victoria Kimble's Soprano Trouble. She loved it, so I gave her the next book in the series. She's back today with her review!
Sports families do not understand art, so Maddie is going to have to lie.
Maddie Ryland is an amazing volleyball player. She fits right in with her sport-centered family. But when Maddie is invited to join the Aspen Junior High Art Club, her secret dream of painting looks like it can become reality. The only problem is her parents want her to play club volleyball at the rec center. So Maddie tells her parents that her school has a club team, and she’d rather join that. Only there is no club team at the school. Maddie’s lie about the volleyball team starts an avalanche of other lies she has to tell in order to keep her spot in the art club. It’s only a matter of time until Maddie’s lies catch up with her. What will her parents say?
When I asked Alexis about this book, she first recounted practically the entire plot (which is exactly what I did with my mom when I was her age!), and then she summed up her feelings this way:
I liked this book even more than the first one. I think it's because I already knew the characters, so I didn't have to figure things out. Some of the mean girls from the first book got nicer. It teaches kids not to lie to their parents. I give it an A++!That sounds like 5 stars to me, and I know that Alexis is dying to get her hands on the next book in the series!

Victoria Kimble is a wife, a mom to three girls, a full-fledged homebody, a so-so housekeeper, a mediocre musician and has dreamed of writing her whole life. She lives at the foot of the Rockies in Littleton, Colorado and she will never take that for granted. She has spent most of her life living in Colorado, with a brief six-year hiatus to live in Nebraska to attend college and get married. She is mostly a stay-at-home mom, but dabbles in a variety of other odd jobs, such as being the nursery director at church, doing admin work and crocheting beard hats in the winter. She loves meat and potatoes, superhero TV shows and movies, and when the weather stays between 70 and 80 degrees. She could probably love the beach if she ever spent any time there.
Victoria spent her childhood reading and making friends with the characters in her favorite books. She never grew out of that. After many years of wondering, she decided it was time to write the stories she had always dreamed of writing. She hopes that her stories model an active Christian lifestyle, while feeding the insatiable sense of wonder and adventure that everyone has deep inside.
