Review: "Risking Love" by Toni Shiloh

I've read—and enjoyed—the other books in Toni Shiloh's Maple Run series, but Risking Love is something special!

Nikki Gordon lives with a perfect trifecta of noes. No guys. No dates. No way.

The past holds her bound with ropes made of fear-infused steel, and she’s determined that no one will ever cut through them. If only her heart would cooperate whenever Shorty comes around. Things go from complicated to confusing when he appears at The Maple Pit in the company of another woman—a drop-dead gorgeous one at that.

With everything to lose and to gain, Nikki steps out in faith and prays for the courage to let him in… before it’s too late.

Gregory “Shorty” Smalls finally has the chance to take his burgeoning business to the next level. Then maybe, Nikki will quit seeing him as a goof-off and give him a real chance.

Finding out he isn’t the problem? The best and worst news possible.

Just how much healing has to take place before he has a chance to move from friend zone to love of her life?

And does he even have a chance?

Genre: Christian fiction, contemporary fiction, diverse fiction
Release date: June 25, 2019

This is the story I've been waiting for ever since I read Buying Love. I knew that Shorty and Nikki would have a great love story, and Toni Shiloh didn't disappoint!

What I loved the most was the way Shorty patiently waited for Nikki and treated her with such care—even before he knew why she was so relationship-shy. Her healing and their friendship-turned-relationship are definite highlights of the story!

I also loved checking back in with other couples from the series—Luke and Delaney have an especially sweet story.

One minor plot thread didn't quite make sense/ended unresolved, and, while it was in no way integral to the story, I struggled to get past it. I even flipped back to make sure I hadn't missed something! But that's minor compared to the enjoyment I got out of reading Risking Love—it just keeps the book from being a 5-star read for me.

Overall, this is a wonderful conclusion to the Maple Run series! I love the diversity in Shiloh's characters and the biblical truth she brings to her stories, and Risking Love is definitely my favorite in the series. 4-1/2 stars.
