It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (7-9-18)

Happy Monday! I'm writing this during my lunch break, after what has felt like an incredibly long morning. Not sure why; I have plenty of work to do, so I'm keeping busy. But the 3-1/2 hours between work and lunch just felt interminable. So instead of thinking ahead to what might be an equally long afternoon, I'm looking back on the weekend, when I saw Ant-Man and the Wasp with my mom.

She didn't find it nearly as funny as I did, and as the credits rolled, she turned to me and said, "Well, weren't you Miss Chucklepants!" Yes, yes I was. While it's not a perfect film (it felt about 15 minutes too long), it's pretty darn enjoyable. And, as I have been ever since Clueless, I'm still a huge Paul Rudd fan.

Thanks to a 4th of July with no plans until the evening, I was able to do quite a bit of reading last week! Though the day off in the middle of the week messed with my brain, I think I could learn to live with it ...

What I read last week:

Unraveling by Sara Ella. The only reason I had time to read this was because of the July 4th holiday. (So thanks, Founding Fathers, for the big things [independence, freedom, etc.] and the little things [a holiday]. Much appreciated.) It was a little deal I made with myself: I could read Unraveling through the 4th, but then I had to put it down to read my next review book. Fortunately, I finished the book on the 4th ... and now I'm dying to read Unbreakable! (4-1/2 stars)

Sons of Blackbird Mountain by Joanne Bischof. Really, I just want to gush over this book! It's a beautiful, emotional, heartbreaking novel, and it's sooooooo good. So read it. Trust me. (5 stars)

Loving Grace by April Smith. I read this one for an upcoming tour, and I have some ... conflicted ... feelings about it. It's Christian YA, and I love that it's safe for anyone to read. More to come next Monday when my review posts. (review and rating to come)

What I'm reading now:

The Truth Between Us by Tammy L. Gray. I've just started this one, and so far, so good!

What I'll read next:

You know I'm terrible at picking these, but maybe If I Live by Terri Blackstock. My library hold just came in, and I'm sure it'll be a quick, thrilling read!

  1. I've been eyeing both Unraveled and Sons of Blackbird Pond, and might be interested in reading them. Good list! Here's what I've been reading lately:

    1. They're both really good, Kym! I'd especially recommend Joanne's--it's one of my favorite reads of the year so far!

  2. So many good books! I do need to pick up If I Live at some point and I look forward to reading Tammy's. I just finished Becky Wade's latest and am going to start 'Guernsey' tomorrow.

...also happy to know 'Ant-Man' is fun (love this character). But, if Marvel has ONE flaw, it's that they usually can shave off a bit of time and still tell an effective story. :)

    1. Oh, I need to read Guernsey! My goal is to read it before the movie hits Netflix ... we'll see if I make it :-) Glad to hear you finished Becky's--and happy to see it on your Top Ten Tuesday this week! It'll make my list, too, if I actually get it finished. (I picked the books out last night, but that's all the farther I got before becoming highly distracted by the Cubs game.)

And yes, I'd agree that most Marvel movies could be just a tad shorter ... but I still love them all! (Well, most. There are a couple that just didn't do it for me, but I'll still eagerly go to each one that hits theaters!)

  3. I am currently reading Red Rising - it's the first in a series of sci fi novels. So far, I'm liking it.

I JUST saw a preview for Guernsey for the first time and was ELATED that it's going to be a movie AND that the casting is basically a Downton reunion tour. Sign me up!!

    1. Yes! The Downton actors will always have a special place in my heart :-) I know exactly what the Red Rising cover looks like, but I know absolutely nothing about it. Looking forward to your review :-)

  4. Thank you for sharing such good reads! I place several on my "want-to-read" list at Goodreads! Happy reading!

    1. That's great to hear! Thanks for stopping by!
